DESCRIPTION
Sequim Prairie Tri-Irrigation used this grant for a water conservation project benefiting ESA-listed Puget Sound Chinook, summer chum and bull trout, as well as summer steelhead and fall pink salmon, in the Port Williams area near Sequim in Clallam County. The project obtained an easement and constructed a complete water storage and distribution system for 670 acres of farmland. The system includes a re-regulation reservoir and a pressurized piping system. The re-regulating reservoir will hold 4.1 million gallons of water. The project replaced 19,346 feet of open irrigation ditches with underground water pipelines. One central pump station was installed to pressurize the entire system. Water withdrawals from the Dungeness River are estimated to decrease by 3.0 cfs during the irrigation season (April 15 to Sept.15). The project improved habitat for all fish species in the lower six miles of the river.
