DESCRIPTION
The project involves pipelining irrigation canals with proven high rates of loss by seepage. All reaches proposed for piping are recommended high priority projects from "Dungeness River Agricultural Water Users Comprehensive Water Conservation Plan". Montgomery Water Group Inc. prepared the "Plan" under a State Water Conservation Grant. The project will protect/restore salmon habitat by increasing instream flows, especially during low flow periods. Lowered temperatures through increased flows/greater volumes will improve water quality (303d list). The introduction of coliform/other pollutants into local streams and the Dungeness River will be eliminated by pipelining the canals. The project is in WRIA 18, Dungeness watershed; sponsors are Sequim-Dungeness Valley Agricultural Water Users Assoc. and the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe. The project will begin in mid-September and be completed by Dec. 31, 1999 weather permitting, or by May 31, 2000 (latest) . Preliminary design/engineering for the project is complete; construction will be within existing rights-of-way. A SEPA checklist was completed for the "Comprehensive Water Conservation Plan."
