DESCRIPTION
This project involves reconfiguring Hurd Creek and installing a fish ladder above the Hurd Creek Hatchery intake to allow fish passage and utilization of upstream habitats. Clallam County Conservation District has restored spawning habitat along Hurd Creek from the Dungeness River up to and including the Hurd Creek intake. Chum and coho salmon have been observed spawning the length of Hurd Creek including the bypass channel. We have attempted to allow fish passage above the intake by raising the upstream pool's water level. This allows greater depth of water in Woodcock Road's culvert, but increases the height of the bypass channel weir. We have not observed any fish in the upstream reaches of Hurd Creek. We believe fish ladders at the bypass weir and at the Woodcock Culvert would allow passage above the Hurd Creek intake.
