DESCRIPTION
This Clallam Conservation District project replaced a culvert with a bridge. A culvert on Nelson Creek, a tributary to Lyre River which flows into the Strait of Juan de Fuca, is a barrier to fish passage. This five-foot diameter culvert is 33% passable due to a 1-foot outfall drop. The species that will benefit from this project are chinook, coho, cutthroat, searun cutthroat, and steelhead. A 40'-span x 14'-wide painted steel beam bridge set on precast concrete strip footings is the proposed correction for this site. Total habitat gain is 2.49 miles. This site is on Nelson Creek, a tributary to the Lyre River. WDFW physical survey done in 2005 for Site 990304 by Nettnin and Hird. Habitat gain to first complete barrier upstream is 0.56 miles. Total habitat gain is 2.49 miles. Coho mapped almost to site, steelhead 0.50 miles downstream, chum 1.0 mile downstream, chinook in Lyre River, searun cutthroat assumed. WRIA: 19.0032 River System: Straits of Juan de Fuca US Barriers: 6 barriers (5 complete barriers and 1- 33% passable, 4 are near end of fish use.) DS Barriers: 1 complete barrier (looks more like a partial barrier in photo) at SR 112, unscheduled.
