Great Peninsula Conservancy (GPC) used this grant to acquire an approximately 20-acre undeveloped shoreline property to permanently protect vital nearshore salmonid habitat. The property is located in the town of Seabeck in Kitsap County at the very tip of a small peninsula on northern Seabeck Bay called Misery Point. The acquisition protected a continuous unmodified stretch of approximately 3,500 feet of Hood Canal and barrier lagoon shoreline, as well as a 1,000 foot sand spit, a 2.3-acre barrier lagoon, eelgrass beds, and feeder bluffs. The project site is documented spawning habitat for surf smelt, sand lance, and Pacific herring. The property's eelgrass beds and barrier lagoon are also likely habitat for juvenile Endangered Species Act listed anadromous fish, including Hood Canal summer chum salmon and Puget Sound Chinook salmon.
