DESCRIPTION
Continue momemetum from current feasibility, outreach and planning efforts and conduct a preliminary (30%) floodplain reconnection, salmon habitat restoration design and provide additional protection in the Moon Valley Reach of the Lower Big Quilcene River. The Moon Valley Reach is located downstream of HWY 101 bridge between rivermiles 2.2. and 3.0 and encompassing 100 acres of historic river floodplain. Through community and stakeholder outreach and support this restoration design will provide elements to provide river floodplain reconnection, water quality and improve habitat conditions for salmon species, including ESA listed Hood Canal summer chum in the lower Big Quilcene River.
This project lead by Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group with partners from Jefferson County, Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe, Skokomish Tribe, Jefferson Land Trust and WDFW proposes to continue momentum from current feasibility, outreach and planning efforts and conduct a preliminary (Manual 18, Appendix D-2) floodplain reconnection, salmon habitat restoration design in the Moon Valley Reach of the Lower Big Quilcene River.
