DESCRIPTION
The North Olympic Salmon Coalition's (NOSC) Snow Creek Riparian Recovery Project, in Jefferson County, WA, treated 22 acres of riparian area to control knotweed, and other nonnative plants along the lower Snow Creek riparian corridor (mouth to approximately RM 4). The target invasive species, Knotweed (Polygonum sp.) has invaded the riparian areas of this system, resulting in a riparian corridor that is lacking in diversity and habitat quality. Following nonnative plant removal, the project worked with many local landowners to plant native tree and shrub species on 29 acres of floodplain habitat Snow Creek. The project improved riparian habitat along critical rearing and spawning habitat for ESA-listed Hood Canal Summer Chum and Puget Sound Steelhead, and Puget Sound Coho. PCSRF FY15 were spent within the award window.
