This collaborative project will identify and prioritize potential nearshore restoration projects for East Jefferson County shorelines, contact priority landowners, develop preliminary designs for 2 high priority projects and sponsor 2 public workshops about nearshore enhancement strategies and challenges. We will compile information from numerous recent nearshore assessments and reports produced by PSNERP, regional and local agencies, and tribes to develop an initial project list. The compilation will be reviewed by a community-based advisory team using criteria established by the team to evaluate and prioritize potential projects. A draft priority list will be used to contact landowners and conduct at least 8 site visits to refine the list. Conceptual design work will be completed for 2 of the top 8 priority sites based on landowner willingness and evaluation results. The Jefferson MRC will also engage the broader community in two public workshops/forums to address shoreline restoration scenarios in the context of community values, sea level rise, climate change, ocean acidification and other predicted environmental and economic shifts. An updated, prioritized list of potential nearshore restoration projects will be of value to all our collaborators, not just the MRC.
