DESCRIPTION
This proposed project would protect spawning and rearing habitat for summer chum salmon in the upper anadromous reach of Salmon Creek. This property was for sale at one time, and the Jefferson Land Trust has completed an appraisal for the property, seeking to work with a conservation buyer to purchase the property in bulk and then divide it into salmon habitat and upland pieces. The upland would be managed forests. Purchase would protect steep slopes and existing, high quality riparian habitat, while allowing for complete instream restoration. Landowner willingness will depend on appraisal information about the fee simple or conservation easement value.
This project can be found in the Recreation and Conservation Office's Project Information System (PRISM) as # 09-1631.
The landowner declined to sell at this time. (12/5/2011) The project was closed and funds shifted to other restoration projects.
