This feasibility project provided basic ecological habitat information and services to ESA listed Hood Canal summer Chum and Chinook salmon ESA listed steelhead. Both summer Chum and Chinook juveniles use the Duckabush River estuary as nursery habitat. During this study, HCSEG worked as a local project partner to help advance the early action items as part of the PSNERP GI and assist in advancing local community and stakeholder project support while WDFW and USACE seek congressional authorization and WRDA funding. HCSEG worked at partnership with the PSNERP/ESRP team as local project actions are developed under the guidance of the WDFW PSNERP project plan. The project goal was established through multiple outreach and engagement activities over the two years with local key community members and stakeholders to determine their benefits and needs. Communications with the community members and stakeholders occured throughout the study with development of public information materials, community and stakeholder in person meetings, and other communication products. Outreach efforts gathered initial information of shellfish resources and ownership in the Duckabush estuary.
