DESCRIPTION
The proposed project includes acquiring approximately 182 acres of riparian habitat within a 1,000 foot-wide riparian corridor along the south side of the Duckabush River, including approximately 7,000 ft of river frontage. The acquisition would protect the bulk of the remaining private land in this riparian area, contributing to a 2.6-mile protected riparian corridor from The Olympic Canal Tracts at the mouth of the river to the Olympic National Forest boundary. Additional upland working private timberland will be protected with an easement through a partnership between the Trust for Public Lands, the Green Crow Timber Company and the Navy. The Duckabush has been recognized as a high priority conservation watershed by a number of plans and entities and protection of priority riparian lands will address threats to threatened Puget Sound Chinook and Hood Canal summer chum.
