Category Category: Acquisition
DESCRIPTION
The proposed project includes acquiring approximately 259 acres of riparian habitat within a 1,000 foot-wide riparian corridor along the south side of the Dosewallips River. The acquisition would protect the bulk of the remaining private land in this riparian area, contributing to a six-mile protected riparian corridor from Dosewallips State Park at the mouth of the river to the Olympic National Forest boundary. State Parks identified this acquisition as part of its 2006 Dosewallips State Park Area Classification and Management Plan, designed to balance recreation with natural and cultural resource protection in the Dosewallips region. The Dosewallips has been recognized as a high priority conservation watershed by a number of plans and entities and protection of priority riparian lands will address threats to threatened Puget Sound Chinook and Hood Canal summmer chum.
