DESCRIPTION
Jefferson Land Trust successfully purchased the ~74 acre Irvin property (Upper Snow Creek Forest Preserve USCFP) and has conducted blackberry, English ivy and other noxious weed control measures and replanting along Snow Creek and in wetland areas of the property. The USCFP has become one of our ambassador lands and is used in education programs with local school districts. Boundary line issues have been mostly resolved. The Jenks property was not purchased as the property owner chose to sell on the open market, and the subsequent owner was not interested in working with the Land Trust. As a result, the Land Trust sought a scope change to include the Ryfield, Rutter, Taylor and Barry properties in the project. We acquired the 8.75 ace Ryfield property further downstream from the USCFP and augmented the replanting of clear-cut upland forest with mixed native species. The Rutter project has not progressed due to lack of landowner interest, but the Taylor and Barry property acquisitions are on track to close toward the end of 2017 and early 2018.
