DESCRIPTION
This is one of many Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) riparian plantings that were implemented in Jefferson County. The local implementing organization was the Jefferson County Conservation District. Funding came from USDA Farm Service Agency and the Washington State Conservation Commission.
The goal of the project is to restore native riparian vegetation along salmon bearing streams. The objective of the project is to restore natural streamside vegetation, improve stream temperature, reduce erosion, filtration, and recruit large woody debris.
There were some small scale plantings that took place on this site in 2004 and 2005 but in 2006 the entire 29 acres (180' average buffer width on each side) was planted. Over 17,000 trees and shrubs were planted in the 2006 planting
Additionally, this site also is a monitoring site for the Washington Salmon Recovery Funding Board (SRFB). They have been conducting programmatic monitoring across the state through the Reach Scale Effectiveness Monitoring Program since 2004. In 2010, project reports for all projects included in the monitoring program were posted to the Habitat Work Schedule, and there is an additional update in 2011. Please refer to the documents section to review these reports.
