DESCRIPTION
This event hosts approximately 200 students, chaperones and teachers from Belfair and Sandhill Elementary for a day of environmental learning. The annual event started over fifteen years ago (~1996) as a valuable students teaching students program. The event has five educational venues that students will have the opportunity to participate in during their visit to the SITW. The Hood Canal Institute (HCI) students present and design hands-on inquiry based activities that the attending 4th grade students engaged in. The purpose of this project is to give students a better understanding of the Hood Canal Watershed. Students will understand the culture and critters associated with it, its harvest uses and products obtained from it, and how to care for this precious resource area. Fourth grade students rotate through each venue throughout the day. Additionally, the HCI students present and provide questions coinciding with their stations. These questions are the backbone of the fourth grade student workbook.
