DESCRIPTION
Due to funding provided through WDFW's ALEA (Aquatic Lands Enhancement Account) 900 students and chaperones geared up for another year of environmental learning hosted by the HCSEG at the Theler Wetlands. While we were quite prepared for the extended forecast, no one expected the magnitude of weather that we got. Lightening, thunder, gusts of wind 30-45 mph and over an inch of rain fall in just under an hour. Yet the day of environmental learning was perfect. All attendees were well prepared with their lessons and were luckily under cover to help keep themselves and the students dry.
This year the event focused on Wild Salmon ecosystems and the inter-connectedness of all of its biotic and abiotic elements. A
wonderful 24 foot Wild Salmon mural created by AmeriCorps team member Sandra Gibbons depicted this relationship. The mural, depicted the components of each presentation, and tied in the theme of the event giving the students an educational focus to relate to and develop an understanding of.
We had awesome presentations as always and added some new ones that enhanced the venue making this event the most successful to date. A special thanks to all who attended and were not hindered by the weather.
