DESCRIPTION
Jefferson County Public Works removed the corrugated steel pipe arch culvert at West Uncas Road MP 0.804 (Salmon Creek RM 0.75) and replaced it with an 80 ft. span concrete bridge. Construction commenced in July 2018 and was completed in December 2018. The project was constructed per the plans and there were no major changes to the habitat features or the bridge structure, and therefore as-built drawings have not been prepared. The primary purpose of the project was to eliminate a fish passage barrier for Summer Chum Salmon. The stream restoration part of the project was completed in August, prior to the Summer Chum returning to Salmon Creek to spawn. During September and October, the Washington State Department of Fish & Wildlife counted a total of 742 Summer Chum returning to spawn in Salmon Creek. Many of these were observed swimming upstream past the project during construction. With completion of the bridge, an additional 0.75 miles of high quality spawning habitat has been made available upstream.
