DESCRIPTION
The HCSEG and DNR interns found this salmon passage barrier during the Dewatto River Watershed Stream Survey undertaken in the summer of 1998. Cady Lake appears not to have an outlet on the USGS quadrangle. However, once the lake reaches a certain level it flows out of a 3 x 3 concrete box culvert into the adjoining wetland - then down to the White Creek and into the Dewatto River. This system is blocked for salmon passage at the Belfair/Dewatto Rd. by a 24in. CMP culvert with an 8-foot perch. The land use in the area is forestry and there is no significant development in the watershed except for the Cady Lake Bed and Breakfast and the Vogt residence. The removal of the culvert fish barrier will add 234 acres of watershed, 19 acres of wetland and lakes and 1/2 mile of spawning stream to the Dewatto River system. In order to maintain the level of the adjoining wetland it is proposed to install a 54" CMP culvert under the county road that will drain to a 63" wide by 50' long concrete vault fishway with one foot steps. WDFW has approved the final plans for the vault fishway.
