DESCRIPTION
The Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group used this grant to replace two undersized culverts (perched 6-9 inches) that blocked fish passage through Courtney Creek and caused flooding on the roadway. In place of the old culverts, a 50ft x 16ft x 6ft bottomless culvert was installed on a stream grade of 2.3% to allow adequate water flow and fish passage. This project opened up 1,028 acres of undeveloped forested watershed and 1.3 miles of prime wild salmon spawning stream.
