DESCRIPTION
The Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group used this grant to replace an undersized corrugated metal culvert encased in a metal cage with an 18 inch perch. The culvert cage, which was originally installed to prevent large woody debris (LWD) from clogging the culvert, significantly restricted fish movement. The culvert was replaced with a 6 foot round pipe set at nearly 0 gradient, which allowed the stream to function in a more natural fashion. This project opened up 53 acres of wetlands and a lake for salmonid use, along with 1 mile of spawning and over-wintering streams.
