DESCRIPTION
This proposal included the replacement of two undersized culverts in the Hog Ranch road community of the Tahuya Peninsula in Mason County. The Erdman Creek Culvert was 7' undersized and had collapsed, fully blocking the migration of juvenile and adult salmonids. It was replaced with a 14' flat bottom oval galvanized plate culvert. This culvert also had a 20+ fill over it and it reopened over 475 acres of over summer & winter and spawning habitat. The second culvert project (Haven Lake Creek), consisted of three undersized culverts that have been squashed, eroded and washed out. This location is at the convergence of six separate lake drainages and is a major salmonid distribution point. The area opened for over summer and winter and spawning habitat is in excess of 2200 acres. The 3 culverts were replaced with a 60' flat car bridge designed to allow emergency vehicles safe crossing per engineering requirements.
