DESCRIPTION
This project will restore sediment input and ecosystem processes within the 4.4 Km Shoreline Process Unit (SPU). The site contains a historic feeder bluff at the up-drift end of the drift cell that was a major driver for the sediment chain in the SPU. Currently the site is constrained by a 791-foot long concrete bulkhead and a log groin which collectively have cut-off most of the sediment supply and transport from the feeder bluff. Additional constraints include a loss of riparian influence on the near-shore area and negative impacts to seasonal streams and wetlands on the site as a result of the bulkhead. The project objective is to remove the armoring and restore functional processes and habitat at the site as well as the down-drift portions of the SPU. This project represents one of the largest armor removal projects undertaken in South Puget Sound.
