DESCRIPTION
This project involves planting native vegetation along the North Fork of Goldsborough Creek on the Washington Correction Center's property.
This project was identified through the Oakland Bay Riparian Assessment Project. According to the riparian assessment the Washington Correction Center's parcel contained more 'low canopy height' area than any other parcel. According to the assessment this parcel contained almost 43 acres of 'low canopy height' riparian buffer area.
The initial landowner contact, preliminary planting plan that includes 5 different sites, and the first phase of planting at site 4 were completed under the ORAP grant. Recently a planting plan has been completed for site 2 and phase 2 for site 4. These plans along with the most recent plantings have been completed under the WEI grant.
The Mason Conservation District's plan is to complete as much planting as possible before the end of the WEI grant. The Mason Conservation District is also applying for a SRFB grant to continue riparian work in this area and allow for continued progress with projects like this.
Since this project has been implemented through multiple grants this project page does not include any numerical progress or budget information. These numerical values are included on the ORAP and WEI project pages.
