DESCRIPTION
MCD utilized Mason County's GIS to create a critical area property layer depicting the properties that were adjacent to streams, rivers, lakes, wetlands or Puget Sound. MCD staff used this layer and other tools to determine eligibility of Request for Assistance and to target populations for this grant.
Through the development of a conservation plan landowners and MCD staff work collaboratively to identify, prioritize and implement BMPs. MCD staff used GIS to compile soils information and property maps using United States Department of Agriculture, Natural Resource Conservation Service Web Soil Survey and Mason County's GIS that included aerial imagery.
A critical area buffer BMP layer was developed to track progress of BMP installation. MCD maintains a landowner database for all Requests for Assistance and BMP tracking. This database was linked to GIS to create a working layer on action taking place in the county. As landowners complete BMPs the database is updated tracking their progress.
