DESCRIPTION
The Willapa Bay Regional Fisheries Enhancement Group used this funding for restoration project that improved in-stream spawning and rearing habitat for Endangered Species Act-listed anadromous fish (chum, coho, Chinook, steelhead, and cutthroat trout) by addressing two blocking culverts on Green Creek . These culverts were identified as priority candidates in the Upper Willapa Watershed Analysis and the WRIA 24 list of limiting factors. Green Creek is located in the upper North Willapa River watershed, about eight miles southeast of Raymond (Pacific County). This project opened 4.4 miles of spawning (46%) and rearing (54%) habitat. It corrected two blocking culverts and realigned the creek to address past erosion problems along 0.25 miles of stream. Revegetation along the stream included 150 Douglas fir (5 to 6 foot trees) and 500 live stake willows. Willapa Bay Regional Fisheries Enhancement Group partnered with Pacific County and the Bonneville Power Administration on this project.
