The proposed combination project will acquire fee simple property rights of the 4.31-acre property comprised of two parcels and replace an existing 11-foot (ft) wide by 7-ft tall by 44-ft long bridge with a concrete floor with an approximately 24-ft wide by 9-ft tall by 60-ft long box culvert at Logan Hill Rd MP 0.103 in Lewis County, WA. This barrier structure, which carries flows from Berwick Creek, is 0 percent passable due to a slope >4 percent. The "Prioritized Chehalis Barriers - May 2020" layer in the Chehalis Fish Passage Barrier Prioritization (CFPBP) mapper identifies the existing barrier as a Priority 1 barrier. Replacement of this structure is expected to restore immediate seasonal access to 5.57 linear miles of habitat for the Southwest Washington (SWW) Distinct Population Segment of winter steelhead trout and 6.76 linear miles of habitat for the SWW Evolutionarily Significant Unit of coho salmon. Unimpeded access to this habitat for steelhead and coho will be restored upstream of this site once downstream seasonal barriers are removed. According to the CFPBP mapper total accessible habitat above this culvert once all downstream and upstream barriers are removed will be 6.48 linear miles for steelhead and 7.67 linear miles for coho. In-stream work on this property will include 621 ft of realignment/regrade of streambed material within the channel to provide fish passage during low flow. Channel regrade activities were limited to the minimum distance required to meet stream simulation design.
