DESCRIPTION
This project targets knotweed control and riparian habitat restoration in the Satsop River watershed. The Center for Natural Lands Management (CNLM) will manage the project and it fits within CNLM's broader Chehalis River Basin Knotweed Control Program. Successful knotweed eradication and habitat restoration in a watershed like the Satsop requires four essential steps: 1) acquiring signed consent forms from private landowners to treat knotweed on their property; 2) annual surveys of all project waterways to assess invasion/treatment/plantings status; 3) annual herbicide treatments on any knotweed infestations (pending landowner consent); and 4) native riparian plantings where eradication has been achieved. CNLM has an excellent track record of fulfilling each of these successive steps for knotweed control and habitat restoration within the Chehalis River Basin. Project location encompasses the Satsop River watershed. Knotweed control and habitat restoration activities span the entire watershed, but focus on the watershed's most upstream source infestation on the Satsop East Fork. Specifically, this expansive source infestation occurs on the Sanders and Vetter properties, which together represent several acres of riparian forest on the Satsop East bank.
