DESCRIPTION
This is a restoration project correcting a fish barrier culvert located on an unnamed tributary to Porter Creek on Boyer Road, 1 mile east of the town of Porter in Grays Harbor County, WA. This project will replace a culvert that is perched at the downstream end. Replacing this culvert will allow fish access to more than 2.5 miles of high quality spawning and rearing habitat for salmonids. The project supports Coho, Chinook, steelhead, Chum and cutthroat trout. It can be anticipated that Coho salmon and cutthrout trout would be primary spawning stock in this stream. The other species would utilize the stream for off-channel rearing and as refuge during high water flows.
This is a restoration and fish passage project corrected a fish barrier culvert located on an unnamed tributary to Porter Creek 1 mile east of the town of Porter in Grays Harbor County, WA. This project replaced a 3 ft. diameter culvert that was perched 1.5 feet at the downstream, with a 1 foot streambed drop at the upstream end. The correction was removal and replacement with a bottomless arch culvert. Replacing this culvert opens access for coho and chum adults to additional spawning areas and provide habitat and shelter for juvenile Chinook, steelhead and cutthroat trout, both resident and searun. Replacing this culvert provides 2.5 miles of fish access to high quality spawning and rearing habitat for the salmonids mentioned above.
