DESCRIPTION
This Scatter Creek Design Only Project will result in a preliminary design which will cover approximately ½ mile reach in the mainstem of Scatter Creek, east of Tenino, Thurston County WA. This reach is just below several miles of protected and highly functioning salmonid habitat on Heernett Environmental Foundation properties. The design will include elements that should reduce nitrate and sediment loading, enhance instream complexity, re-establish appropriate floodplain connectivity, increase riparian function and vegetation, and ensure over summering refugia pools and habitat are protected for juvenile rearing. The project would incorporate the adjacent landowners in protective easements along Scatter Creek, creating a riparian zone corridor where instream and riparian work could be accomplished. Once this project is completed, this 1/2 mile reach would be highly functional, creating additional salmonid spawning areas, remain a protected over-summer refugia, and support and increase salmon populations. This project will benefit Coho and cutthroat.

NOTES
Kirsten Harma notes: This is the alpaca project. I think it ranked too low for SRFB funding. Viable for water quality funding? Review panel rejected for SRFB funding.
