DESCRIPTION
Quandary Creek (WDFW ID S-313L-05) crosses the East Lake Pleasant Road through a 36-inch round concrete culvert that is a partial barrier due to a water surface drop. This culvert is also in poor condition (downstream end is cracked) and severely undersized, leading to substantial scour downstream of the outlet. Downstream of the crossing, Quandary Creek
flows into Lake Pleasant, a unique and productive habitat that connects to the Sol Duc River. Upstream of the crossing, field verification completed by the Quileute Tribe identified excellent habitat quality in 1.23 miles of stream and connected wetland habitats. The productivity of the connected wetlands was previously documented by WDFW in the 1990's as valuable habitat for rearing coho. There are no other documented barriers upstream or downstream.
