DESCRIPTION
This project will implement phase 1 final
designs and remove three salmon and steelhead culvert barriers on Wisen Creek
and Wisen Branch Creek in Clallam County.
This NPCLE SRFB proposal is to supplement match
required for $930k BAFBRB funding.
This restoration project will replace three undersized culvert fish barriers: one culvert on Wisen Creek and two culverts on Wisen Branch Creek. The project is located in Clallam County within the Sol Duc watershed approximately 5.5 miles east of Sappho, WA. The project sites can be accessed via Wisen Creek Road. The Wisen Creek culvert barrier is located at latitude 48.06331, -124.16135; the upstream Wisen Branch culvert is at 48.06453, -124.16122; and the downstream Wisen Branch culvert is at 48.06375, -124.16155. The overall goal is to replace the three undersized culverts with fish passable structures to increase the quantity and quality of accessible spawning and rearing habitat for coho, steelhead, and trout species. Construction will be completed using the designs/construction ready plans created in an earlier project (PRISM 19-1521). Upon completion of this project, it is expected that aquatic species will gain unimpeded access to 2.9 kilometers of quality habitat upstream as well as improved access to over two acres of wetland and beaver pond habitat.
