DESCRIPTION
This restoration project removes a failing, undersized, partial fish-barrier culvert on Kugel Creek with a fully fish passable structure, providing full access to over 2.9 miles of anadromous habitat and an additional 4.4 miles of resident habitat in Kugel Creek. The failing culvert will be replaced with a "Con/Span O-Series" bridge, a pre-cast buried bridge structure, or similar. This bridge is also needed because of the passage of the Olympic Discovery Trail through this location.
This restoration project removes a failing, undersized, partial fish-barrier culvert on Kugel Creek with a fully fish passable structure, providing full access to over 2.9 miles of anadromous habitat and an additional 4.4 miles of resident habitat in Kugel Creek. The failing culvert will be replaced with an arch plated culvert. This arch plated culvert is also needed because of the passage of the Olympic Discovery Trail through this location. The project currently has match WCCRI grant in the amount of $795,656. This proposal is to fill in a funding gap that arose when the Clallam County engineer who planned to do the design retired. Because of the retirement a consultant needed to be hired to create the designs. The money spent on engineering as well as a significant increases in construction and materials costs in the last 6 years (since the cost estimate was created) has created this funding gap of $206,000.
