DESCRIPTION
Conduct outreach to landowners. Acquire shoreline and riparian properties in the vicinity of Brandeberry Road within the 100-year FEMA floodplain up to the limit of available funding. Remove improvements and restore to native vegetation.
In this planning and restoration project, Jefferson County worked collaboratively to produce a Phase I comprehensive Hoh River Restoration and Management Resiliency Plan (RM 16-31), including five conceptual designs to improve channel migration zone function, support self-sustaining floodplain and in-channel habitat for salmon and steelhead in reaches of the Middle Hoh River prioritized for restoration that also address locally identified objectives. The plan provides a synthesis of existing knowledge including geomorphic and physical habitat information; mapping of channel and floodplain features; 2D hydraulic modeling using existing LiDAR and new aerial photos; a platform for consideration of transportation, resiliency and restoration goals, options and opportunities; and near-term response to an invasive species threat. Technical and steering committees participated in plan development through a series of regular meetings, site visits, community outreach and education picnics, project video, and surveys.
