DESCRIPTION
This project is within the Sitkum River subwatershed on the west side of the Olympic Peninsula. This project would involve the survey and design of 5 non-fish-bearing stream crossings along the Forest Service 2900 road that flow directly into the Sitkum River. The current culverts are undersized and in deteriorating condition, and present a risk of failure resulting in the delivery of excessive amounts of sediment to the mainstem Sitkum. Culverts will be designed to accommodate 100-year peak flows with consideration for sediment load, wood likely to be encountered, and increases in flow associated with climate change. Steelhead, rainbow and cutthroat trout are present in the Sitkum in the vicinity of these culvert locations. Coho, Chinook, and sockeye are present approximately 1.5 miles downstream.
This was a final design project located within the Sitkum River subwatershed in Clallam County, WA on the west side of the Olympic Peninsula on Forest Service (FS) Road 2900. This project involved survey, design, and preparation of contract packages for five tributary stream crossings along the FS Road 2900 that flow directly into the Sitkum River. The current drainage culverts are undersized, in deteriorating condition, and present a risk of failure and mass wasting, resulting in the delivery of excessive amounts of sediment to the mainstem Sitkum. Stream crossing designs were drawn to accommodate 100-year peak flows with consideration for sediment load, wood likely to be encountered, and increases in flow associated with climate change.
