DESCRIPTION
The Pacific Coast Salmon Coalition, along with landowner Rayonier Inc., will remove two barrier culverts that are together resulting in one blockage. The culverts are undersized and perched. The deteriorating culverts also have an outfall drop of 1.2 feet, rip rap at the outlet and are less than half the size of the stream width, creating a velocity barrier to fish migration upstream. This restoration project will replace them with a 60' bridge. The replacement would open approximately 3.5 miles of habitat that is currently accessible only during specific flows to coho, steelhead, and cutthroat in Squaw Creek, a tributary of the Dickey River. Squaw Creek is located in Clallam County east of Highway 101 on Rayonier Inc. forest road 5230. The Squaw Creek project is an RMAP project with the landowner contributing a 35% match.
