DESCRIPTION
The North Fork Calawah Watershed Analysis was an interagency effort between the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service, Olympic National Forest, Soleduck Ranger District; Rayonier Timberlands Operating Company (Rayonier); and the Quileute Tribe. Other participants included the Washington Department of Natural Resources (WDNR), the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), Pentec Environmental, Inc. (Pentec), Lee Benda and Associates, Inc., and EcoLogic. Public input was also solicited from the surrounding communities of Forks, La Push and Port Angeles.
The purpose of this analysis was to examine the physical and biological processes in the North Fork Calawah Watershed from the river's headwaters to its confluence with the South Fork Calawah River. For the purposes of this analysis, the watershed was divided into subbasins (also called subwatersheds). Information gathered in this analysis will be used in developing land management prescriptions on State and private lands and as a guidance in developing site-specific and long-range management plans on federal lands.
Federal modules were used for the watershed analysis: Sedimentation, Vegetation, Hydrology, Riparian, Fish, Wildlife, Public Use, Cultural, Hazard Calls, Prescriptions, Maps and Appendices. The Quileute Tribe took the lead on the Cultural Module and participated in the Fish Module.
The Watershed Analysis was published by the US Forest Service.
