DESCRIPTION
This newly corrected crossing is on a tributary to the Sooes River in Clallam County. A physical survey measured 1.0 mile of habitat gain. There is a barrier falls at 890 meters upstream on the left bank trib and the right bank trib has a large wetland. No downstream barriers. Resident cutthroat trout are documented present to and past this barrier. Chinook, chum, coho, and steelhead are present in the Sooes River about 2 miles downstream. An unnamed tributary to the Sooes River, which drains into the Straits is used by both anadromous and resident fish. A culverted crossing that is a barrier due to excessive slope and a hydraulic drop at the outlet blocks upstream passage of these fish to valuable upstream spawning and rearing habitat. The species that will benefit are coho, resident trout, and steelhead. The previous barrier culvert was replaced with a 40' span x 14' wide pre-fabricated weathering steel bridge. .
