This project is located in the headwaters of the South Fork of Lincoln Creek in the Upper Chehalis River Watershed. The confluence of Lincoln Creek at the Chehalis river is at river mile 62. The existing barrier culvert is beneath a forest road crossing. The culvert was determined a barrier during the Lewis County Conservation District Phase I culvert survey. The level B assessment documented the pipe as being a velocity barrier. Approximately 1.94 miles of fish habitat is available for fish to use above this blockage. The survey revealed that the canopy cover and instream cover were very good throughout most of the reaches. Gravel was available for spawning and abundant rearing habitat is available above the blockage. Coho, steelhead, cutthroat and searun cutthroat are the species of concern in the system. The existing culvert will be removed and replaced with a 128" X 83" X 35' aluminized corrugated steel pipe arch. The new culvert will allow fish of all ages to migrate up and downstream. This project is being partnered by the Lewis County Conservation District, the landowner, Washington State Departemnt of Natural Resources, Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife, and the Interagency Committee for Outdoor Recreation.
