As of June 2022: The Nisqually Land Trust has helped to protect over 10,000 acres in the Nisqually River Watershed and nearshore surrounding the Nisqually Reach. The Land Trust owns and manages over half of the area protected. Basic stewardship tasks include periodic site monitoring; installation and maintenance of signs; installation and
maintenance of gates and fences; control of noxious weeds; coordination with neighbors; and coordination with partners about research, education, and land use activities. Currently the annual stewardship costs for properties in the
anadromous part of the watershed are approximately $100,000, or about
$400,000 over the next 4 years.
