DESCRIPTION
Pierce County Conservation District used this funding to address data gaps that existed regarding riparian conditions in the anadromous portion of the Nisqually Basin. Although information about riparian conditions for part of the basin had been collected, sources were scattered and not available for comprehensive review. This project allowed the purchase of complete, detailed aerial photographs for the anadromous portion of the Nisqually Basin in Pierce and Thurston Counties. In addition to the complete set of aerial photographs, the project delivered a complete GIS layer of riparian conditions to the Nisqually Indian Tribe to be used for future project selection and development. This project was identified as a high priority in the Nisqually Chinook Recovery Plan, as Objective 1.2.3, and as Action Items 1.2.3.1, 1.2.3.2, & 1.2.3.3. Completion of this objective has led to project selection and planning that will benefit Nisqually fall Chinook, coho, and pink salmon, as well as cutthroat and steelhead trout. This project was specifically identified in the Limiting Factors Analysis for the Nisqually Watershed.
