DESCRIPTION
This stream reach identified for this design project is devoid of many high tiered limiting action items and will address several high tiered limiting factors. The stream reach is lacking habitat forming processes; Primarily LWD, and riparian. The reach is lacking functional riparian corridors, the banks are eroding at an alarming rate, the river is disconnected from the flood plain and there is very little habitat structure(LWD) in this river reach that is necessary for the natural formation of pool, riffle and glide habitats. In order to establish riparian corridors, there will need to be a design to terrace back the stream banks and establish native vegetation. It is expected that LWD /ELJ's will also need to be planned and implemented to correct the existing habitat defficiencies and concerns.
This project will provide a list of engineered projects to address the resource concerns within this river reach. The Pacific Conservation District has been contacted by several members of the community asking for this project to be considered. The goal of this project is to benefitsalmon and the landownership on the Naselle river by creating essential fish habitat for 5 salmon species in all life cycles.
NOTES
This was a test project set up during an HWS training and was not approved for SRFB funding in 2012.
